concept

OK... I had to come up with a web site for this class. So, I opened NetStudio 2000 and started the creative process. Below are the drafts in order created for this site. The examples probably represent two hours of work.

1. Heck, you gotta start somewhere and basic text is as good as any. At the time I thought I’d use basic white pages for this site, so I played with fonts until I found one that fit my site’s purpose.

2. I resized “Caps”, offset remaining text, and added a couple graphics (the axe gives a line from the “W” and then just “easy money”).

3. I usually end up with blue so tried it on for size. Uggh... the axe has to go...

4. An abstract photo in the background with green tint. Title is now engraved and shadow changes to light color on black text. Axe is gone and I embossed the money bag to give depth.

5. The textured background is nice touch for a ‘presentation site’. So changed to lighter text and darker shadow. Still a bit “cartoony” for me.

6. For the final version, I actually used the background as fill for the text and added more blur to the shadow. It gives a little more sophistication to the graphic (thereby creating the illusion that I actually know what I’m doing).

I guess the important thing here is not to get too attached to any one idea. Save all of your ‘versions’ and something will eventually work out. Remember that there is nothing to lose by trying out ideas. I’ll often have over 20 versions of a graphic.
