Transitions can help the viewer realize time and setting changes. Click on the transition tab and pages of creative transitions will appear. All you have to do is drag and drop them between the clips in your timeline. Beginning video editors usually put too many of these in their productions. Only use transitions to show a change of time or space that otherwise might be confusing to the viewer. Transitions will take a second or so from the clip on either side. You may have to re-edit clips so that important dialogue or details are not lost during the  transition.
